The local strawberry season is underway! These little juicy, flavourful strawberry gems are a wonderful addition to the local produce scene. They replace the big, bland imported variety we have had on hand for most of the year.

When picking up the basket from the market, it takes real willpower to not dig in and eat them on the way home. Nothing wrong with snacking in the car but make sure you leave enough for the rest of the family and for the recipes you will be making! They are soooo tasty!

The recipe for today is a Strawberry Milkshake. There are many other uses for these berries but with the recent heat wave, what better way to cool off than with a good old fashioned milkshake. The only equipment you need is a blender.


(serves 2)
  • 2 cups whole hulled strawberries
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 3/4 cup of milk
  • 2 cups real strawberry ice cream


Put all the ingredients in the blender and blend until smooth. To aid with the blending process, I usually have to gently shake the blender while it is running. This recipe is so easy and the taste is wonderful. I asked my kitchen staff to taste and critique the milkshake. Delicious!
